Episode 447 – Sounds Not So Good

By | June 27, 2019

“I enjoyed the dramatic reading. My last 13 years in the Illinois have not erased my 29 years in North and South Carolina, so I sound more like Gere that Guru. While horrified, I liked the piece about the sim-swap. I know of at least one security consultant that does not give out the phone number associated with this sim card for that reason. I believe he uses a VOIP service and data for all his calls. While he believes Apple is a bit more secure than Android, it is interesting to see the cess pool that we are inhabiting, security and privacy wise. He hosts another podcast I listen to regularly. “Hi guys just a quick note to say that I too am still alive as I write this. The audio problems you had on your podcast 445 started at 2:02 mins in and corrected itself at 6:36 mins. The problem started with a sort of a hum, like the noise you get through speakers when you plug/unplug a lead to the input of the audio amplifier. Then both of you had slightly distorted voices as though it was a recording that was running slightly slow. It corrected itself with the same sort of hum noise. Silly question but I’ll ask it any way. Could you not download the podcast and listen to it yourselves?” – Brian

“First, Still listening. Keep up the good work. I listen while commuting & forget any comments I may have when I do get to a computer. That’s why it’s been years since my last feedback. Second, I use Zoom to connect & record my classes. One setting in there when you dig will allow you to record each speaker’s audio as a separate file. This Can come in handy when you do the mixing & leveling. The only person who can record is the person who places the call, so Guru would need to call Jere each week. Then all the files would be on Guru’s computer for mixing. Third, In case you haven’t gone back & listened, there is an audio issue in some of the last few episodes that I now suspect comes from your re-encoding process. Things sound great, and then there is a quick buzz and the audio (usually Gurus) will either slow down & drop to a lower pitch, or occasionally speed up and increase in pitch. It happens fairly early in the “write to let us know” episode, near the end of Jere’s comments about your improved sound quality. You both are slowed & low for a bit, then speeded up. It all started when Guru started rebuilding his recording rig. Anyway, keep up the great work! Enjoy your podcast, keep going.” – Tom
