Episode 449 – NextCloud

Show Notes

  • “Guru’s mention of his use of Next Cloud caught my attention. I am looking for something that could replace Dropbox for syncing a few files between my Android phone and the various Linux systems at home and (bonus, if possible!) web access from work. Dropbox’s new fee structure is a bit steep for someone that just wants to sync a few files between more machines than they permit under their free plan. Dropbox is blocked by my employer anyway, so a self-hosted solution may work as it is low profile and would not attract my employers attention as quickly as Dropbox’s high profile commercial solution did. More description of Guru’s setup would be appreciated. Self hosted? Using a cloud service? Lessons learned? Recommendations? Thank you for your entertaining and useful efforts, -jim”
